A New Master

Dishonored at the gate we held
Backs bent, bones broken, arrows pierced our souls
But we did not give way
Yet we are stripped of rank and banished
From the home we spilled our blood to save.
Some gone to madness and called away to the hills
Left to walk with shadows we once called evil
Now kindred spirits gathered round the flame.
Heed the call that once whispered in our nightmares
The sting of fear now an embrace
Smiling mouths that breathe retribution.
When morning comes we walk as one
Given way to madness, our eyes clear
Through a shrouded land we march
Lead on by a new master, Dominion
Whose banner we carry to the place that once was home
Surging forth to break against the wall
This time, the gate will not hold.

I didn’t really mean it to, but this poem sort of ended up connecting to the first story I posted on this blog, “Bal Zezar”. I think I need to revisit it, and then I have an idea for connecting them into a larger story…

    • Thank you so much (: I usually try to get an opening line with a certain feeling and then just follow it’s path to an ending. Usually it ends up completely different from where I thought it would. Not a great answer, I know, but I don’t really know another! Music is an inspiration for me, too—groups like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and recently Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats and Green Lung. Don’t really know if I answered your question! Thank you again for reading my stuff (:
