Beneath the Fruiting Tree

Almost the dark of night is deep enough

for this garden of secrets to be planted

Soil rich in sorcery waits beneath the fruiting tree

ready to embrace the broken seeds

that will grow in the light of passing stars

until, heavy with their own fruit, they bow to the sun

Then out to the potter’s field we will go

in search of what we planted for the reaping

not a harvest, but an exorcism

and when our baskets are heavy and full

with everything we tried so hard to lose

we will walk with backs bent away to the factory

and ride out the assembly line that grinds us

and all we carry

into new seeds ready for the next year’s sowing

If you could spend a year living in any fictional world of your choosing, which one would you pick?

  1. Rivendell the land of elves in the Lord of the rings. I would want to be a female Elven. Great prose I could see the bent backs and weary people treading back to a new beginning or perhaps their end. Great verses. Hard question by the way. Have a great weekend my friend. Love 💕 Joni
