Almost the dark of night is deep enough
for this garden of secrets to be planted
Soil rich in sorcery waits beneath the fruiting tree
ready to embrace the broken seeds
that will grow in the light of passing stars
until, heavy with their own fruit, they bow to the sun
Then out to the potter’s field we will go
in search of what we planted for the reaping
not a harvest, but an exorcism
and when our baskets are heavy and full
with everything we tried so hard to lose
we will walk with backs bent away to the factory
and ride out the assembly line that grinds us
and all we carry
into new seeds ready for the next year’s sowing

If you could spend a year living in any fictional world of your choosing, which one would you pick?

Risa… Famed Star Trek vacation site
Beach, lush forests, exquisite food and company

That does sound incredible… I’ve always wanted a functioning holodeck in my house, though I probably would never get anything done if I did.

Rivendell the land of elves in the Lord of the rings. I would want to be a female Elven. Great prose I could see the bent backs and weary people treading back to a new beginning or perhaps their end. Great verses. Hard question by the way. Have a great weekend my friend. Love 💕 Joni

Thank you, have a good weekend as well! Honestly nearly any place in Middle Earth would be incredible to see. Maybe with the exception of Mordor…

Excellent poem.
I’d want to spend a year in the Shire, in Lord of the Rings. I’d love a year of eating and drinking like Hobbits.

Thank you! Ooh the Shire would be great, and all the rest of Middle Earth, too. I’ve been thinking about reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy again…
