Home

Home was already gone

long before time came to take it away

It was already somewhere in the forest

climbing trees that are probably cut down now

searching for some trace of magic that must be there

maybe in the streams flowing out to nowhere

or on hillsides down to vales of shadow

Streets baking in the summer sun

and grass withered, waiting for the rain

All that’s left now is to return there

to the gateway over memory

to maybe find home waiting

sitting in the branches of that tree

legs swinging out over the dropoff

Too much time spent staring at a screen.
