Neon Lies

It can’t be more than a façade

a smokescreen placed over eyes searching

for a way to stop the blood flowing

Nothing more than flashes in the night

neon messages that drown out our whispers

and replace our silent tears with wine

while our glasses remain empty

Shatter them against the walls

and watch the stone crumble away

to reveal the truth we knew was lies—

all a façade at which we marvelled

before this day of turning

and this march together into a world

no longer painted red
