The faces of this crowd are hidden behind masks
stitched together from scraps of imagination
to hide the grotesque, the mark of a thousand lies—
and this disguise is simply one more
they tell themselves so they might pass the night away
without the urge to tear it off
and feel with upturned faces the rains from heaven
impassive caress of the last thin breath to which they cling
holding tightly to an anchor of fraying threads
which is all that keeps them from falling to the stars

I’ve been working on editing and uploading a lot of my older writings. It’s been pretty great. It’s almost like my past self wrote messages to my present self. And now I’m inspired to maybe write a post about this.
