Citadel

Reflections of the light from a high tower

turn snowy streets to diamond

The shards cut our feet as we walk

spelling out the paths we took in red

so that all who watch us from on high

can trace the course of their destruction

from dark horizons to this fey citadel

Nothing but grey skies since I’ve been here in Washington. Yesterday on the solstice, it was so dark all day that it seemed like the sun never rose at all. I missed the grey, but I’m probably forgetting what it feels like to live with it for months on end.
