Lights are on in a basement that should be empty
figures move silhouetted against ritual
and a candle ever burning
False life gifted by a passing thought
robed in the smoke of extinguished fire
is thrown against stone and shattered
again and again until the pieces are dust
And why is the light over the doorway so welcoming?
beckoning entry inward to electrified shadows
beyond that gateway hung with curtains
of silk and starlight
into a room smoke-filled and thick with mystery’s haze

Comparison is indeed the thief of joy. Not sure how best to avoid it though… any ideas?

Imagination. If you can visualize yourself being something, there is no need to dwell on what someone else is.

I have serious anxiety, which kills my creativity.

I can imagine that would make creativity very tough. Have you found any strategies that help you to center?

Breathing exercises and CBD gummies. I’m on medication, but it doesn’t always work.

Breathwork can do wonders. It blows my mind that what seems so simple can be so powerful.

Self doubt which often hangs above my head like a vulture waiting to pluck out my eye.
Have a great one my friend. Hugs 🤗 Joni

Often it seems we are our own worst critic. At least that’s how I feel sometimes! Best to you, Joni (:

Such a good question. For me, I am not sure. It’s waking with a blah feeling, I suppose. None of my thoughts are my own. I am entirely dependent on reading and listening – a word I have heard gets me going. Like Ice Cube got me thinking in this one https://schoolofblue.wordpress.com/2021/03/11/ice-cube/

That feeling is terrible! And so hard to push past once it sets in. Nice post, it captures the idea of melting away into it. Cheers!

Music definitely helps. Also getting out into the world and actively searching for inspiration. Even just going on a walk can be enough to shake something loose. Doesn’t always work, though!
