In another life with glasses raised
and fire in our throats to keep us warm through the night
we’d still forget the words to all those hymns
so we might as well leave now
before that thing they all seem to be dreading comes
Nobody thought to lock the door
or bar the windows
or even glance at the sky to see if anything had noticed them
We were gone, and the fields in bloom held us
long before our memory returned
until then catching only glimpses between the lines
etched on our skin and the world’s

I think its about a journey into the self more than anything else

Thinking how commitments, what is right for others conflicts with desire, what is right for ourselves, and trying to settle the noise is sometimes all we can do. Great poem. I hope I find that field one day, lay there, gazing at the stars above, finally content.
