Honeycomb

The scene is set—

two in a dark room under wild-sown fields

gone down through honeycomb tombs filled with dust

the trappings of a holy land

One kneels smiling, the others’ sword through his chest

tallying last breaths along the blade’s edge

Both are keenly aware of the pain

and of the earthen walls close around them

sigils red and gleaming

spelling out this has all happened before

The walls are full of them, these stories

and there is no door, no exit to be found

Sorry for the hum in the recording. Thinking I’m gonna need to save up and spring for a new mic soon! Thanks for reading.
