I found words to describe the way slanting light
meets skin of a bare arm over the bedcovers
as I chewed on plastic
and sipped mezcal
and forecast hazy days ahead,
nothing certain but that you would come,
nothing sure about my footing
or what to say as you cast spells…
I wish to taste of pain you have long endured
and be salve to weary limbs
met by morning light
growing long shadows toward the afternoon
