Caged and Still

I sit and stare at metal bars
Silent and still, my heart aches
Escape was a dream, a tide gone out
Surging back sometimes, always retreating
Before I catch a wave
Like it knows I will never leave.
Tell me there is a world on the other side
Speak to me of roads untraveled
Leading to lost cities of gold
Of amber fields and starlight oceans
Talk to me from behind the bars of my cage
I will stay within, sitting on the key
