Look to the Skies

We look to the skies and wait

hold our breath if we have to

and let our gaze fall along the horizon

painted with the blood of tomorrow

and the dying breath of yesterday

And we’ve been here before

maybe a thousand times we’ve been here

always wandering along the same paths

highways where ancestors walked into time

and washed out to sea with the tide

the come and go of celestial sighs

the pulse of a heart beneath it all

and a hand extended into night

ready with a dagger for the final plunge

Picked up my copy of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for the first time in a while. Would’ve liked to meet Douglas Adams! I bet he was fun to talk to.
