They’re Not Like Us

They breathe air to survive

and choke on it

They walk on fragile legs

miles and miles to return to where they began

They sleep under false suns and wake in darkness

ready to do it all over again by the light of the stars

and before dawn comes to chase away the nightmares

they’ve lived every life but their own

They’re not like us

and before the void comes calling

as doors close on the wastelands at our back

they just might come to realize it
