Let the Earth Bury Me

Let the Earth bury me here

beneath slow winds and shifting sand

dessicated by the sun-bleached remnants piled high—

monument to lords forgotten in the dunes

and yet another waiting to join them and waste away

When the rains return this dead garden will bloom

a deep breath before the long exhale

skies carrying away the last sigh

while deep, deep beneath this morphing façade

ancient blood runs hot through veins of fire

Got to see the Great Sand Dunes today. I guess you could say it left an impression on me.
