Vapors rise and swirl between us
haze and shadow and candlelight
cut through by a shaky voice
terrified that the world might hear
might see this worship and name it sin
The walls here keep every secret
wood and brick that steadied trembling hands
and soaked in the whispered confession
spoken again now only to a dark room
where swaying together a handful of souls
grasp at smoke and breathe deeply

What’s the closest you’ve come to experiencing true awe?

The closest I’ve come to experiencing true awe was when I saw the scenery out west at Grand Tetons National Park.

Cool! The Western USA is such an incredible landscape. I haven’t been to Grand Tetons yet but I’d love to go some day.

I have experienced awe on several occasions and every time was in nature, viewing it for what it truly is. The kind of experience that makes one (or at least me) begin to weep.
