The Attitude of the Knife

Thanks for reading! If you’d like to hear some lofi-esque songs, check out my new YouTube channel @cedarhazemusic https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIxQrAO69KzahTufP_mv6Pw

I appreciate you all (:

Amazing the atrophication
before our very eyes
How quickly weakness sets in
as if the foundation was made to erode
a constant slow decay from the beginning
or more accurately a shedding
and emergence of fresh skin
raw, new breath burning within
the remnants discarded
There are catastrophic processes
which do not kill the host
until its purpose is spent
parasitic with a conscience
Yet the host is awake
with knife in hand
and the process is not yet complete
still there is warmth and blood and deep breathing
and strength to move the knife
if only to turn it aside
that it might till the soil

The title and theme of this poem are inspired by a quote from Frank Herbert’s Dune: “Arrakis teaches the attitude of the knife – chopping off what’s incomplete and saying: ‘Now it’s complete because it’s ended here.’”
