Autumn

how many leaves will fall

in golden forests

before my heart breaks

and does not mend?

how many autumn nights

must I feel on my skin

before they do not stay me

and the dying proceeds

without thought or need

to capture transience?

again and again a moonlit sky

lies over woodland ways

and dark though it is

the night is young

my errand waits ahead

and I am expected
