Steel Hope

Look up and see where the world ends
Out of reach, the edge hovering always above
Pressing down on fears of the beyond
Grinding to dust all dream of escape—
Breathe it in and forget; the scent of honeyed words
is enough to live on here at the end
So listen.
And I feasted on the wonder before my eyes
Filled with it, overflowing at the seams of my soul
For there, amid the steel girders
Backdrop to desolation and wasted hope
Where all told me there was no exit to be found
I saw the way out
