Eyes Open

Into wild country go the few with eyes open

away searching for what they’ve already seen

a voice of truth in the desert telling tales of fire

soft words on the wind

calling them back to an oasis in the distance

Eden at the edge of wasteland

filled with false comfort

perpetual in the air, the lungs

even as the mirage fades

Then left with broken hope

despair in eyes turned to the skies

the rest will flee into the desert

and find the trail left through burning sands

away from the void that follows in their footsteps

Our Planet on Netflix is stunning. I found myself open-mouthed at some of the wildlife scenes they were able to capture. Some pretty grim warnings in it, too.
