You with eyes like sunrises of another world
the curve of its horizon on your lips
and burning as its sky braves descent into night
There are shadows here hiding worlds of their own
in broken jars, chests buried in the sand
no keys to lock away the secrets
so they spill like blood and wine
into waiting cups and open mouths
until only the taste of bitter things is left behind
with you and your lips and your blood spilled
looking through empty windows
that reflect back the broken vessel
and the eyes once caught in a sun’s dying flame
now embers smoldering in the sand

Found an old trail riding bike in the garage and took it out to the woods a few times. Rode it along the Cedar River, and only fell a couple of times. I’m hooked! Now I’m going to try to save up and get a proper mountain bike for when I get back to Colorado.

WOW, what a poem! I bought some wine this week–to put in the Cioppino I’m making! 🙂

This is beautiful 🙂
Isn’t it an amazing sense of freedom to just hop on that bike and fly?

It is! It’s great picking up speed, I can’t wait to go out and find new trails to ride.

Exquisite imagery! ♥️
I have especially enjoyed the verses «eyes like sunrises of another world / the curve of its horizon on your lips». This reminded me of Oscar Wilde’s beautiful words: “The world is changed because you are made of ivory and gold. The curves of your lips rewrite history.”

Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it (: I definitely need to read more of Oscar Wilde’s work! So far I’ve only read The Picture of Dorian Gray.
