Walls that Speak

Into the cracks in the walls

crawling like ice on the face of a corpse

the words come and go sometimes

and if breathing left a trail of footprints in the night

the path might lead to some inner circle

Round and round and round go all the little lights

and the noise, deafening roar of silence

is thick like flesh, a knife slicing through

to draw out blood made ready for the vintage

All this is made clear by the walls that speak

with a face like a map of bloody highways

and a mouth now open, now closing

now bleeding from an open vein the secret

of looking through to some poor fool’s paradise

Two more weeks until I move back out to Denver. It’s been great being home in WA, but I am definitely ready to go back!

  1. Wow great stuff Mitch! This is a very interesting poem full of metaphors. I like all the lines but these especially touched me. “Round and round and round go all the little lights
and the noise, deafening roar of silence
is thick like flesh, a knife slicing through
to draw out blood made ready for the vintage.” I thought you were already back in Denver, I don’t know how I got that mixed up but I did. I suppose WA has become strict again with the increase in outbreaks again. NC is really bad and everyone wants to sue the governor. I would not want to be the person in charge right now. Anyway, I hope you were able to enjoy your time in WA. I know that there has been some nice weather. Have a great weekend Mitch and stay safe. Love and hugs to you and your family. Joni

    • Thank you Joni! I still have a couple weeks in Washington before heading back to Denver. I’m a bit nervous about traveling, but plan on keeping to myself on the road and not stopping in any big cities. It’s too bad to hear that so many states are rising again. All it takes to get this thing relatively under control before a vaccine is made is something as simple as putting a mask on, and we couldn’t even get that figured it out…

      • I know it is sad and continues to get worse. Please be careful traveling Mitch. I was in our car one day and my husband had on a mask to go into a store for just a moment. I wasn’t wearing a mask and a man came right up to the car window and started talking, I had to tell him to move back from the car. Be careful my friend. Looking forward to reading more great stuff. Hugs 🤗 Joni

      • I know so true. Seeing men with guns at banks and some stores in NC. This kind of stuff upsets me. We just keep to ourselves and go to grocery store and on walks together for exercise. Your writing is really amazing Mitch. I really enjoy reading your work. Stay safe. Hugs 🤗 and love ❤️ Joni
