Cornucopia

Through lands of milk and honey he went

left behind all who watched him walk away

to search for those in the shadows

who still reach for the cornucopia

with emaciated hands, gaunt faces

and eyes that know only hunger in this realm of plenty

One light and all shades surrounding

the colors swirling around a center

built from broken promises, unpaid debts piled high

as at the edge of desert the collector starves

and cannot even crawl to a high place

to watch starlight waterfalls over the last days of destruction

Reap and reap and never sow

is the song of barren dunes and creeping sands

and the melody that falls as a dream of rain

is lost on ears pressed to the desert

desperate to hear the last sighs of a dying thing

Recently started reading 2001: A Space Odyssey. I already love the movie, and the book is so far another level deeper. Plus, like all good sci-fi, it’s an escape into something beyond our world.
