Scarlet

I think you look good in scarlet and black

wrapped in sunset and the night

like you sewed it yourself

reflected in blackened windows

you approach and the world bends

time itself does not know what to do with you

it placed you here when

so easily

you could have conquered Rome

and gone back to the forest

to gather wicker

while walls crumbled

but you’re here

with more behind your eyes than empire

striking matches

watching the world before you

burn in effigy

If you want to hear poetry from some Denver poets you can find episodes of my show, The Poets, over at thepoets.co

Cheers!
