night speaks

night speaks in rain-lashed tongues

played against cobblestones

a broken path to the sea

little gnawing mouths along the way

in refrain—go back

to easy breaths and sunlight

go back

to future sand

and be not buried before your death

go back

but I go on

for my body must be salt-soaked

my limbs must know

waters too cold to take me
