She Went On

I am awake in this dream world
Where the days are colored by liquid shadow
The nights sing softly of what lives beyond
Behind each door a world of desolation beckons
Windows reflect shades of purple and silver
One walks on, key in hand, searching for the way through
Pathways crumble after she has passed over
Tired eyes mark her steps
Creatures to whom she gives no notice
Ahead of her, drawing near,
The lake of tears lies still in the light of fear
I alone watch her ascension to the edge
The words she speaks die on the wind
Float like ash to the water below
Earth’s response sends tremors across the glassy surface
Tides of time groan as the currents shift
Stagnant waters flow once more
To carry us beyond the veil toward hope
