We should not be here
But we’re here together
Can you feel my heartbeat?
Yours strikes out in ripples
Bending the still surface
With the racing blood in your veins
Little earthquakes whisper I love you
Even though it isn’t true
I cannot feel my fingers
Legs, too, lost in the cold darkness
So I huddle closer to you
Snatching at traces of warmth already drifting away
Instead of getting out of the water.
