The world is cold and dark with pockets of warmth
Not the other way around.
Like a city in winter—darkness filling in cracks between
Insulated apartments, thick-paned windows to keep out the night
Where hunger dwells.
But the night must sometimes be braved.
To live always in warmth is to be helpless when the cold comes
When journeys are completed, or failed,
Retreat to the light where wait kind hearts to welcome back
Not hurt at the absence, only celebrating the return
Knowing that the time to leave again draws near
Simply happy to share a world with someone like us
