Across the Sky

Broken edges, loose threads
Tear away until blood is flowing
Beneath ashes carried on the wind
Already magic is flowing through our veins
Our feet at the edge, backs to the chasm
And certainty that when we fall, we’ll fly
Below us a city that will soon look up
In wonder at the red falling rain
Twin shooting stars across the sky
And marvel at the new unknown
Let old mystery fall away to dust
Piled on the ashes of what came before
When time still flowed across the world
Now the sky burns with our passing
Red rain floods the streets
And the eyes, their eyes, all upturned
Can finally see the emptiness behind the stars

Send it out to the stars!

  1. I love the expedition theme you use, as of a group of explorers going somewhere new. Often you say “we.” That’s why I think of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Center of the Earth in connection with your writing.

    • Thanks! I think I read a sort of kid-version if Journey to the Center of the Earth when I was young. It was part of a series where they took classic stories and retold them in a condensed form. I’m sure I didn’t get the whole experience, I’ll have to start looking for a copy!
