Through Fire

In the desert under sandfalls

a black box speaks in acid tongues

something like electricity from its mouth

calling to the pilgrims: come worship

and they wade through fire to find it

before the sandstorms come to bury them

Distortion in the air holding back the tide

and the ground ready to give way

to go down to the caverns below

where something like ecstasy awaits

the wail of a broken voice rising

above a thousand cries for absolution

War Pigs & Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath will forever be my go to songs to rock out to. What’s yours?

  1. I like ’em both but I gotta go with Black Sabbath. They are just more. Listen to Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Ozzy and the boys in their prime and killing it. I wore out my Heaven and Hell cassette tape listening to it on my Walkman (yes, you read that right!)! Maannnnn, now I gotta listen to my Sabbath catalog. Thanks Kid!

    • Sounds about right!! Glad I could help (; I highly recommend you check out The Main Squeeze cover of War Pigs on YouTube. Not sure exactly what made them think it needed some keyboard solos but they definitely killed it. Though of course nothing can measure up to Ozzy and Iommi on vocals and guitar. They also covered a few Zeppelin songs and Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd (that cover honestly has one of the best guitar solos I’ve heard) though again there’s no one like Gilmour!

  2. War Pigs is a bloody classic. I’m seeing a whole lotta love for zeppelin in the comments too, pun definitely intended. Recently, a relative introduced me to Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, specifically the song ‘Stargazer’, and that’s getting plenty of plays.
