Waiting

The waiting is the hardest part

waiting for the sun to rise

waiting for the smoke to clear

waiting for a hand to reach out of darkness

and pull the shadow-soaked into the light

Waiting for a chance to wait some more

only this time with no help in sight

just the inevitable end to long summers

A final moment to watch the leaves turn to fire

then die

and marvel at the savage beauty of decay

My mind is in Minneapolis tonight.

  1. Beautiful David. “A final moment to watch the leaves turn to fire
    then die
and marvel at the savage beauty of decay”. I love the imagery in this poem. Also at first looking at the picture it looked like an elongated skull and then I blew it up and saw that it was smoke. Lovely work David. I hear you had some nice hot weather in that area yesterday. I suspect your summers will continue to get warmer as are ours here in NC. Blessings to you my friend. Love 💕 Joni

Perfection, as always–and my mind too, is in Minn. You may have noticed Seattle has protesters in the street, and another protest scheduled tomorrow… My chirpy perspective has lost its song.
