Sink

I saw where solid rock turned into shadow

from far above something I’ll never know

not even calling out to me, not even speaking

just melted night spilling out of view

in silence and in servitude to nothing

Then I left

but part of me stayed there, floating

wondering what watched from beyond the shadows

desperate to sink into the void

And maybe it did sink

now down among whatever eyes look up

watching the light live and die

suspended in the ebb and flow

and waiting for the rest of me to come back

Inspired by a place I once visited.
