Carried by the Tide

I think it was the waves lapping at the rocks

that really drove it home

The ebb and flow whispering

of all the things the tide carried ashore

and just left there to waste away

That sound of earth’s tired breathing was all

It was sadness at the passing of time

and the shadows left behind

simply broken before the rest

lost on the jagged path

and searching for a straight and narrow road

as ever higher climbed the mountain overhead

and ever steeper dropped the long fall back into darkness
