There is one who stayed here after the war
behind enemy lines, walking scorched earth
wearing the stars as a suit of armor
and searching for the bombs that were dropped
All that’s left are the remnants
lying half buried in these wildlands
with still so many stories to tell
but no one alive to listen
So they whisper to the sky above
and wait for the world to bury them

I served 3 years in the military (never in a combat environment). Words like these speak to the veteran in me.
