Wind in Tall Grass

To the millions who have come before

ghosts now sleeping under waning moonlight

the stars have given a simple message

It seems wrapped in the color of changing seasons

lost in whispers of the living—

wind in tall grass gently sighing

as mist rolls in over lowland plains

hiding the remnants of both the living and the dead

all below a sky that weeps

and watches the slow coming of the rains of fate

Happy New Year! The world, despite all our efforts, is still spinning. Not sure if I’m more relieved or surprised about it. I know one thing for sure: whatever happens this year, I’m determined to live it differently than the last.
