The Moon Watches Over Us

I was distracted by the moon when voices fell like rain
And brought me back from the light beyond that distant window
Your smile an anchor in storm-tossed seas
Hands that calm the fire for now
Until dry wind once more sets the world ablaze
And I will beg you to escape with me
With promises to take you to the horizon
This time I will break through your smile
And convince you that I mean it.
Do not brace yourself against the wind
Let it carry you through the storm
Across the bridge between sea and sky
No matter if it crumbles as we pass over,
We have no need of safe return.
