Where Sparrows Fell

Too late I decided to go after you

along the path where sparrows fell

from a sky too weak to hold them

You had already gathered up their bodies as you went

and there was nothing left for me to carry

So I walked on empty-handed under a rolling sky

waiting for the rain that built this place to fall

to ask the drops if they had known your touch

when they poured out from broken heights to meet you there

if you had sent them away

a monsoon in retrospect cascading up into the sky

or if you gave in, let them soak into you

and sweep you away to a place no one would ever find

Don’t forget to set your clocks forward! Hope everyone’s weekend is going well.
