I never quite understood what waited out there
why I walked beyond the sun
digging beneath dunes of celestial deserts
looking for anything that might be worth a life of searching
All while slow skies rolled in the tidal grip of oceans
too vast to even feel in my bones
Only hope letting go, drifting away
on the breath of an aching universe
All it has to offer is that:
hope fading
But the well is deep into darkness
down into caverns where fear lives
breathing in the passage of seasons
and dreading the very thought of escape
And now I’ll know if what I’m searching for is there
when at last my lungs can draw full breath
and my eyes forget finally what it was to live in light
