Eldritch

There’s no way through

nothing to bridge the gap

or collapse this distance covered in haze and moonlight

Everything between this summit and the next

breathes the smoke of hidden fires

huddled together in circles where the trees grow close

and eldritch things come alive

walking where the sun cannot reach

where ritual flame burns to ash

and mist gathers

I went to a live poetry reading for the first time in over a year. The last time I went was just before the first lockdown started, so it’s pretty wild to be on the other side of it looking back. Tonight, things felt almost normal! Great energy, and lots of great poetry. I’m already looking forward to going again next week.
