Chandeliers flicker, holding dying flame
suspended in a cavernous hall
too wide to see across
to the voices that whisper at the far wall
The edges fade with the memories of those who carved these pillars
graven eyes twisting in the light and shadow
and the whispers, closer now
speak of blood and fire in the deep
Descend, descend beneath the mountain
until even the dim light falls to shadow
and the touch of stone fades with the world above

Going to a live poetry reading again tonight. Planning on reading some of what I wrote this past week. Should be fun!

This brings back memories of my Grandfathers’ stories, descending deep into the heart of the coal mines.

Reminded me of Lord of the Rings very atmospheric – good luck tonight!

I’m definitely a fantasy fan, so it’s probably impossible to keep Tolkien’s inspiration from seeping into what I write (: and thank you! Cheers

Don’t you just wonder what must have transpired at a different point and time in history. The same place and surroundings but another era. Mysterious. Wonderful writing! 🙂

Definitely! It’s so cool to stand on foundations of old buildings and try to picture the world and the life that surrounded it when it was being used. Cheers (:
