A World in Daylight Beyond This Shore

His pulse aligned with the ebbing tide
Foam-flecked sand awash in moonlight
Losing track of the night beneath the waves

A calm wind brings the scent of fire
And the memory of a ship at the edge of dawn
Though now the sea is empty

Her breath on his neck, fingers intertwined
At the end of a single set of footprints
Waiting to fade into the golden morning

The ship has sailed over the horizon
Into the daylight world beyond this shore
The sea is glass beneath calm skies

Now he walks waist-deep in the shallows
Reaching out to the world
To grasp in hands that remember all

Shatter it

And cast the fragments beneath the waves
