I Remember You and I

I remember you and I out wondering what ocean that was

We opened a bottle, ready to toast death

And out poured starlight with no end

So we caught it in our glasses and drank

Then bathed ourselves in the stream of light

While the skies overhead emptied

And came down swiftly to bury us

Blinding was the light then

I raised my arms against it

And saw a vision of my hands, aged and gray

Papyrus skin so thin the light came through

But still holding a chisel, working away at a masterpiece

All those bits of stone fell like a trail across the ground

Leading back to a beginning whose author lay dead

Lost among the many rivers

Which flowed together into that ocean we saw

And came pouring out of our bottle of starlight

Air fare from Denver to Iceland isn’t that bad if you get it far enough in advance… Iceland has been top of my list of places I want to visit for a while now. Maybe soon!
