Behind a wall of flame and shadow

upon a throne of smoke

kings one by one enact their infernal rule

while all the time their souls are fed to the fire

Confess your fears to the waking silence

the aberration

fleeing from wildfires into a dead forest

to hide a craving for slow destruction

among the fated and the sacrificial lambs

who watch their funeral pyre grow tall

from houses of wicker and ash
