The Wind Breathes Ash

A broken branch found life again

grafted to a ray of starlight

leaves spread wide to drink it in

Curtains of mist draw close together

holding back the creeping flame

that would see this forest burn

and the wind breathes ash

a sign of life and a gift of death

for the saplings reaching to escape

  1. The cadence and tone of your voice gives so much to this poem. The words themselves speak volumes, and listening to them spoken raises them off the page like mountains out of the wilderness.
