Come and See

Awake and dreaming here where daylight fades

windswept the fields beside winding roads

half lost where the moon is obscured

and the miles pass unseen through shadow

away away to a waiting sea

the fey light bright on distant waves

and the whispers, ‘come and see’

laughter and moon-song at the forest’s edge

taking rest upon sunwarmed sands

faced with a drowning world

vultures circling slowly overhead

and nothing to be done but wait
