I left a part of myself in those woods by the sea
probably half-decayed by now
shaded by evergreens that breathe the salt air
and drink the rains mixing with the brackish water
we lay in the long grass
Sheltered from the wind and melting into the soil
just a taste of what’s to come
silence but for the sound of distant waves
our breath
and the soft laughter of those nearby
who we cannot see

Strange memories of peace.

I am comforted by the “the soft laughter of those nearby who we cannot see.” What a lovely poem, Mitchel! ❤
